Measuring and Communicating Business Decarbonization Processes Through Innovative Tools

Ravezzi 1 Room South Hall

The issue of carbon footprint measurement has gained increasing importance and has spread from large corporations to small and medium-sized enterprises—especially with the emergence of so-called "Scope 3" emissions. These are now seen as essential for demonstrating a credible corporate commitment to decarbonization. More advanced approaches, such as "Scope 4," go even further by encompassing the entire value chain, covering the full life cycle of products and services placed on the market, including their end-of-life phase.

International initiatives such as the Science Based Targets (SBTi) demand detailed emissions reporting, which can be challenging to implement. Among the various measurement tools available, the life-cycle approach stands out as the most robust, offering a comprehensive view of emissions beyond just the production phase. At the same time, regulations and voluntary standards—such as EU directives and the ISO High-Level Structure—are increasingly requiring companies to integrate decarbonization into their strategic planning. Additionally, the EU has introduced strict rules governing how carbon neutrality can be communicated in the marketplace.
Following the success of its 2023 and 2024 editions, this workshop aims to examine the challenges of measuring CO₂eq emissions and explore the opportunities offered by digital technologies to support decarbonization efforts.
