Fabio Fava

Chair of the Scientific/Technical Committee of Ecomondo
 

Fabio Fava is Full Professor of Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology, Bioeconomy and Circular Economy at the School of Engineering, University of Bologna, a position he has held since 2005. He is the author of more than 220 international scientific publications in the field of circular bioeconomy and has served as European coordinator of two collaborative projects funded under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), in addition to coordinating numerous national research projects.

He coordinates the National Bioeconomy Coordination Group within the National Committee for Biosafety, Biotechnology and Life Sciences at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and, since 2013, has represented Italy in several European Commission panels in Brussels. Within Horizon Europe, he is currently a member of the Strategic Configuration, the Cluster 6 “Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment” Programme Committee, the European Bioeconomy Policy Forum, and the States Representatives Group of the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU).

He also serves as Italian Representative on the Board of Governors of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, Rapporteur for Circular Economy and Resource Use within the Scientific Committee of the European Environment Agency (EEA) in Copenhagen, Italian Delegate to the OECD Working Party on Biotechnology, Nanotechnology and Converging Technologies in Paris, and Focal Point for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in the G20 Bioeconomy Initiative (GIB).

He is the Chair of the Scientific Committee of Ecomondo since 2013.
