Cluster Agrifood: a national public - private partnership to support the bioeconomy strategy for a sustainable Agrifood Sector. Innovation priorities and business success stories
- Tuesday, November 5, 2019
- 10:00 - 13:30
- Biobased Industry Room
Organized by: Ecomondo Scientific Technical Committee and Italian Technology Cluster Agrifood CL.A.N.
The Food Industry opens up huge opportunities for innovation and growth in the Bioeconomy sector. Indeed, Bioeconomy represents new and innovative ways of designing and producing food, new ways of recycling by-products and components, and new potential relationships among economic actors. The National Agrifood Technology Cluster “CL.A.N.”, a multi-stakeholder network of the key national players of the agrifood chain, from companies to research centres, gave an important contribution on this matter through the drawing up of an Action Plan that identifies the most significant challenges and research priorities for the Food Industry, such as obtaining new foods and/or feed, re-using of by-products generated by the agrifood processing industries to produce innovative ingredients and/or bioactive compounds for developing health-giving foods with a high nutritional value, managing natural resources sustainability, mitigating and adapting climate changes, creating jobs.
Research activities and policies necessary to cope with food primary production and processing systems in a framework of Bioeconomy opportunities will be discussed in this session, to offer an overview of good practices and viable solutions, to effectively overcome present and future concerns.
