CALL FOR PAPERS

The sediment resource is increasingly becoming strategically important in defending the coasts from erosion and the effects of climate change. In particular in the Mediterranean basin, according to recent reports by IPCC, INGV and ENEA, Sea Level Rise and coastal erosion will put at risk, in the coming decades, large coastal areas, cities and infrastructures, manufacturing, industrial, agricultural and tourism-cultural and naturalistic areas, extremely important as flying-wheel for the Blue Growth of Maritime Territories. The management of sediment resources in this context requires a broad and integrated vision that, in a logic of circularity and sustainability, it must tend to ensure the optimization, use and reuse, of sediments from the most diverse sources for the protection of the territories most exposed to marine entry (recommendations of the "Eurosion" initiative, strategies and measures of the "Bologna Charter" Action Plan, indications and good practices of the "National Guidelines on Coastal Erosion", UN Agenda 2030 objectives). The Conference aims to contribute in taking stock of recent experiences, good practices and new technological solutions for the management of sediments in the coastal and port areas,  to take stock of the application of Ministerial Decree DM 173/2016 one year after the activation of the Expert Observatory , and to represent recent cases of sediment management experiences in artificial basins in relation to the current regulatory framework and the most recent revisions of Legislative Decree 152/2006.
