The Mission Restore our Oceans and Waters by 2030 provides a holistic and coherent framework for developing a systemic approach to the reduction of marine litter in the hydrosphere of the Mediterranean Sea (MED). This can be achieved by structuring and connecting the relevant existing initiatives and exploiting the R&I and policy knowledge generated by the funded projeSTC on the MED decontamination from marine litter. A special role with this respect can be played by the 9 national hubs of the BLUEMED Pilot Plastics free healthy MED but they need to be better structured in their territories, interconnected among them and with the wide community of the plastic producing and transforming operators of the MED basin. Mediterranean regions can benefit from synergies by engaging regions’ network and mobilising stakeholders to cooperate across their territories facilitating the process by promoting alignment of policies and by also supporting internationalization of financing. This event, jointly organized by the Euro-Mediterranean Group of 16 Senior Officials of BlueMed Initiative (www.bluemed-initiative.eu), Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) and Federchimica-PlasticsEurope Italia, aims at creating the bordering conditions for the implementation of such a MED innovation ecosystem with a core role in the effective deployment of Mission Implementation Charter and piloting of the Mission objectives for the MED by 2030.
