Organized by: Ecomondo Scientific Technical Committee and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA)

Opportunities provided by the higher levels of the Waste Framework Directive, such as waste prevention or re-use of resources, are often untapped. Weak economic viability (also due to lack of of economic incentives), ‘soft’ regulatory requirements and limited awareness of the consumers are only some of the causes.  In order to increase circularity the new Circular Economy Action plan strongly emphasises and focuses on Eco-design (and more generally, the so called, Design for the Environment approaches) as well as Re-use and Repair services. LIFE programme has identified such aspects as one of the key priority topics of the sub-programme ‘Circular Economy and Quality of Life’.

The session will discuss why such opportunities are still unexploited, what is being done to support them in order to enhance circularity and how the LIFE programme can help related businesses with funding. Successful examples (also financed from LIFE programme) will be showcased.
