  • organized by Ecomondo Scientific Technical Committee & REF Ricerche, UTILITALIA (Italian federation of energy, water and environmental services)

The integrated water service in Italy is experiencing a phase of profound transformation to respond to the growing challenges of climate change, in a historic moment characterized by the dramatic shortage of water resources. In this context, a fundamental role is played by the national regulator, Arera, called to regulate the new regulatory period 2024-2027 along certain guidelines:
a) promotion mechanisms management efficiency;
b) strengthen the measures to guide the investment decisions of the competent subjects towards innovative solutions with a lower environmental impact, as well as a greater one resilience to extreme events related to ongoing climate change,
c) extend the incentive measures aimed at favoring the interventions of energy efficiency and for self-consumption, the reduction of the use of plastic, the recovery of raw materials, the reuse of water, and further promote the reduction of the amount of sewage sludge disposed of in landfills, taking into account the new EU regulations on waste water and on reuse of purified waste water.
