with speeches and posters from the Call for Papers 2023
Forest and Foresty sector fulfil multiple functions and provide numerous socio-economic benefits, sush as new jobs and growth opportunities in the natural and inland areas of the Country, hills and mountains.
Improving the quality of the forest production and the efficiency of the forest-wood and forest-energy supply chain is not only the goal of the European and Italian Forest Strategy, but it is also a goal to be pursued in order to respect the commitments undertaken at international level by our Country in matter of combating climate change, conservation of biodiversity, economy and socioeconomic development decarbonization.
Today in Italy about 67% of the thermal energy is from renewable sources, equal to 7,5 Mtep, comes from solid agroforestry biomass (crops dedicated and the forest). Coherently with the european strategy for the bioeconomy and the sustainable development, the role of forest product as a substitute for non-renewable materials must be further enhanced, also in relation to the opportunity to provide renewable energy (in particular for thermal use) as a substitute for fossil fuels.
The use of forest biomass for energy purposes, when made sustainably and used efficiently, will contribute to the diversification of economic opportunities deriving from forests in rural areas.
