ECOMONDO GLOBAL NETWORK: NEXT STOP - CHINA!
Join us to discover why this is the exhibition to visit in 2025
We discuss the next stop of Ecomondo Global Network with Ilaria Cevoli, International Project Manager for Ecomondo China.
This Ecomondo's overseas project is driving the ecological and energy transition in Western China with different focuses. Let's learn more about it!
Ecomondo China seems like a must-attend event. What makes it stand out in Western China?
IC: Absolutely! Ecomondo China is the leading trade show and conference in Western China, focusing on environmental protection and renewable energy. Now in its 19th edition, it's an innovation hub for both Chinese and international companies. It covers key sectors like water treatment, monitoring of air, water, and soil quality, waste treatment, recycling, bioenergy, energy storage, and electric mobility.
That’s impressive. Why was Chengdu specifically chosen to host this event?
IC: Chengdu is located in Sichuan, which plays a crucial role in China’s national economy, contributing 40% of the country's GDP. The Chengdu-Chongqing economic area is transforming into a major innovation and investment hub, especially with the Chinese government's commitment to peak carbon emissions by 2030. This transformation makes it an ideal location for green & tech companies looking to enter or expand within the growing Western China market.
What benefits can companies expect from participating in Ecomondo China?
IC: Ecomondo China serves as a launchpad for companies looking to enter the Western China market or strengthen their presence in China. Over the 3-days of the event, exhibitors will have the opportunity to engage in B2B and B2G meetings, organized by Italian Exhibition Group in collaboration with local institutions. These meetings offer direct access to industry professionals, plus valuable insights into new regulations, industrial developments, and market demands across various sectors.
Can you tell us what’s new in the 2025 edition?
IC: In 2025, we are placing a new focus on industrial decarbonization, aligning with China’s government policies aiming for carbon neutrality by 2060. This will be highlighted during the opening international conference on April 1st, titled "New Industrial Visions for Carbon Neutral Cities". The conference will feature dialogue sessions between Italian and Chinese companies, institutions, and associations, discussing the exchange of knowledge and technologies to tackle climate change. This event is part of a broader conference program, which includes over 10 events throughout the 3 days of the exhibition, covering various aspects of sustainability and innovation. It’s designed to foster collaboration, sharing best practices, and exploring the latest developments in green technologies.
It sounds like a significant event. What’s the role of Italy in this year’s edition?
IC: We are proud to have Italy play a major role again in 2025, with 14 Italian companies participating in the Italian Pavilion. We’re partnering with ICE - the Italian Trade Agency, to support Italian companies in green technology and renewables. These companies will present advanced solutions in monitoring, water and waste treatment, waste-to-energy, and energy efficiency. They will also take part in B2B meetings with over 50 hosted profiled buyers.
The event seems to be attracting international attention. Could you tell us about the international buyer program?
IC: Yes! For the first time, we are launching an international hosted buyer program in 2025. We will welcome 8 selected buyers from North and West Africa. This will help further diversify the event and create new business opportunities for exhibitors and visitors alike.
What exhibiting sectors will be represented at Ecomondo China?
IC: Ecomondo China offers a wide range of exhibiting sectors, covering green & tech industries such as water and wastewater treatment, monitoring and control of water, air, and soil, waste management, waste treatment, recycling, and valorization of waste, as well as bioenergy. It also includes energy sectors such as energy storage and electric mobility, which align with China’s governmental investments and efforts for energy transition.
It sounds like this year’s edition is shaping up to be a big success. What other factors contribute to the event's quality?
IC: The event benefits from strong local government support, as well as backing from Chinese sector associations. This ensures a high-quality event where exhibitors can connect with targeted visitors and buyers. Additionally, there’s growing interest from European and Italian companies seeking to explore new opportunities in Western China. With over 27 years of expertise, Ecomondo provides the perfect platform to help them tap into this expanding market.
Thank you for sharing these insights. It is clear that Ecomondo China will be a key event for green technology and sustainability in 2025!
IC: We are excited to see the event unfold and to provide a space for companies and institutions to collaborate on building a more sustainable future. Our goal is for Ecomondo China to follow the successful path of the original Ecomondo event in Italy, growing in scale and international reach. Over time, we aim for it to become a major hub not only for Western China but for the entire Chinese market, and perhaps one day even for East Asia as a whole!
