Scientific Committee

Associate Professor in the scientific disciplinary sector ING-IND/25, Chemical Plants, at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Rome La Sapienza.

He graduated with honors in Industrial Chemistry in 1990 and earned his PhD in Chemical Sciences in 1994. He is currently an Associate Professor in the scientific disciplinary sector ING-IND/25, Chemical Plants, at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Rome La Sapienza, where he is the head of the course on Chemical Processes and Plants, Pollutant Dynamics, and Remediation of Contaminated Sites.

His research activities are mainly focused on the study and development of processes and technologies for the remediation of contaminated soils and aquifers. In this field, he is the author of over 60 scientific publications in internationally distributed journals and books, as well as over 80 communications at national and international conferences. He is co-holder of 5 patents related to water purification and the remediation of contaminated sites.

Since the academic year 2010/2011, he has been the director of the second-level Master’s program in Characterization and Technologies for the Remediation of Contaminated Sites at the University of Rome La Sapienza, and he was a member, from February 2010 to December 2015, of the Technical Secretariat at the Directorate General for the Protection of Territory and Water Resources of the Ministry of the Environment and the Protection of Territory and Sea as an expert in remediation.

Since 2017, he has been a “foreign member” of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in Moscow, with specific reference to his expertise in the management of contaminated sites.

Finally, he has coordinated numerous national and international research projects and operational units, with particular reference to the remediation of contaminated sites using combined chemical/physical and biological processes for the in situ treatment of historical contamination sources.
