Roberto Montanari
Geologist and geomorphologist, EQ responsible for the Coordination of activities in the field of Coastal Protection for Plans and Programs at the Emilia-Romagna Region, Directorate General for Land and Environmental Care – Unit for Soil and Coast Protection and Land Reclamation, and for European and international projects and initiatives of the Region in the field of integrated coastal protection, management and adaptation to climate change.
He coordinated the Regional Intersectoral Working Group for the formulation of the Integrated Management Strategy for the Protection and Adaptation of the Coast to Climate Change (GIDAC, 2022) and currently coordinates the Regional Technical Board for the Protection of the Coast.
He was the referent of the European initiative Bologna Charter and Action Plan for the protection and sustainable development of the coastal areas of the Mediterranean (2015-2019) and of the related Task Force of the Integrated Maritime Policies Group of the Inter-Mediterranean Commission CRPM.
He was part of the Steering Committee of the National Board on Coastal Erosion established by the Ministry of the Environment (2016) and coordinated the National Working Group on the Guidelines for the protection of the coasts from erosion phenomena and the effects of climate change (MATTM – ISPRA, 2018).
He contributed to the formulation of the Regional Guidelines for Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM, 2005), for the component Physical System, Risks and Protection Strategies.
He taught integrated coastal management and protection at the University of Bologna for the Erasmus Mundus Master’ in WAter and COastal Management (WACOMA 2017-2022).
He has been WP Leader in European Projects such as, among the most recent, Co-Evolve, Change We Care, AdriaClim.
He is author of scientific and informative publications in the field of management, protection and adaptation of coastal zones and sediment management for coastal nourishment.
