Bioenergy & Agriculture
Shifting from non-renewable fossil and mineral raw materials to bio-based circular production processes is essential to achieving the EU's climate targets.
In this scenario, producing food and energy at the same time is not only possible but now necessary, and agriculture plays a key role in seeking solutions to the climate emergency. Slurry treatment, precision technological innovations in agricultural mechanics and the efficient use of resources (including water) make it possible to produce more, with less waste, and to reduce emissions by more than 30%. The production of biogas and biomethane allows the Made in Italy agri-food chain to be more sustainable and to add value to one of the country's most strategic sectors.
Thanks to the involvement of multinationals, companies, SMEs, consortia, etc., Ecomondo showcases the “most alive” resource to be transformed and valorised, addressing the concept of Bio-Economy from various angles: agroecology, biomass, organic waste from agricultural and forestry matrixes, biowaste.
All topics are explored from the perspective of bio-energy generation, used for the production of thermal energy, electricity or the cogeneration of both, the production of biofuels, biofertilizers and more.

A 10-YEAR PARTNERSHIP: ECOMONDO AND CIB
Consorzio Italiano Biogas (Italian Biogas Consortium – CIB) is the first national voluntary association representing Italy's agricultural biogas production sector. Currently, CIB members include more than 830 farms producing biogas and biomethane and more than 200 industrial companies supplying plants, technologies and services for biogas and biomethane production. CIB is one of the founding members of EBA - European Biogas Association, a partner of Gas for Climate.
“FARMING FOR FUTURE”
The CIB project for the first time at Ecomondo
In this context, farms that have invested in the development of anaerobic digestion have over the years become real regional environmental guardians and drivers of the transition towards virtuous models of a regional circular economy. The experience of CIB members was the starting point for the “Farming for Future - 10 actions to cultivate the future” project, through which the Consortium aims to map out a path that can be followed by those who want to contribute to the agro-ecological transformation of Italian agriculture.
